They First double rudders
in the Mini Transat, 1977, rcnr 54 Designer Caroff.
Warning, very large photo on the bottom of this page Going through the history of the Mini Transat designs is always interesting for me. After seeing a drawing of the Carrof designed 54 on a Polish site; I tried to look for more information about this special design.. And the Polish sailor Adam Waligórski who wants to sail the MT pointed me towards it...It is the first use off double rudders in the Mini Transat, and a mast without a mainsail... So I was very curious. I tracked down the designer Caroff and asked him for more info.
He did send me his original photos of the boat. I am very gratefull that he did took this risk, and I will return them as promised :) Enjoy these rare photos, and if you know any photos of the first canting keel ???? The special feature of the mast without mainsail was born because the rules stipulated only 5 sails to be used .... This was more the solution of the sailor Kazimierz "Kuba" Jaworski (Mt 79 and Ostar 76 and 80) then off the designer Caroff

Another point of the boat next to the Double Rudders, No Mainsail was that it was partly build out of KEVLAR, very early use of it :) Look at the many winches and the size of them :) And the result of all these efforts ? A second place in 1977.... Caroff went on to design a lot
