THE NAUS: An design that is now (Aug 2003) an official production class.

The Boat;
The Italian design is a different approach; No runners, double entrance and a structure that is glued in later. All for ease of handling and efficient production. The styling is different too, natural curves seems to be the base.
The boat is now (July 2002) being raced seriously and will show its potential in the coming races. One boat
(Perle De Suer,355) from Jacquas Valente has done the Mini circuit.

The Naus looks different, the design is different. But will it perform different ???
NEW, AFTER RACE 2003 COMMENTS; (by Jacques Valente, 2003 sailor)
Three reasons why I bougth the Naus.:
The easy handling and stability
The easiest way to transport a mini without authorization
My sponsors loved the look of the boat and decide for it !!! yes yes it's true...

And the dislike:
Not enough comparison and tests with other Naus owner (I was the only one
preparing the transat)
Genoa a bit too small... because of the 7/8 mast configuration (less surface
upwind than the POGO 1 And 2)

Other coments I received;
- easy to sail even in very tough conditions, also because of the extremely simplified fitting but no fine tuning of the mast -very roomy for its category.
-With proper conditions, it is easily kept above 10 knots speed under gennaker, and jibing was not an issue. Helm remains very light even under strong conditions, Excellent speed and stability under gennaker.
- Not performing too well in light air. The genoa is quite small. b)

Look at the picture and you will notice the absent of backstays or runners.
The traveller is another piece that is different, it is a laser style block on a rope. The boomvang is a pushdown system, like on a 49-er. And the bowsprit is fixed.

 The variable draft makes it possible to trailer the boat slightly canted. This will make the trailor/boat combination legal on the road, in Italy it is hard to transport a 3m wide trailor. And you can launch the Naus from a ramp without the crane needed normally.

Naus VPP is available,thanks to the honest designers, wish I had them off the Pogo and the SuperCalin. PS-a Vpp is computer generated and not 100% foolproof, see the heeling angles downwind.
