Hello all,
I'am currently looking at my keel box construction. First this is the former German Zero with the attempt to construct a lifting system for the keel blade.
I have loosen the aluminium plate on top, next remowed the 15 mm nylon distance plate, under the distance plate two relatively small nylon plates to keep the blade in place one in front and one plate in the back. nothing on the sides down in the box. As I can understand from this forum and other sources, this is not the original construction.

My question is: How was this constructed originally? anyone with drawings/pictures/verbal description of the construction

Best regards
/Martin

Berhard tried a hoist mekanism, but the keel jammed. With a bulb in more forward position it migth work, but then it will not be a zero anymore but a proto....

Bit late in responding,

The 15 mm distance plate is not original.
And that metal pin should not be there, hence the rust.
For the rest it looks original.

And fill that well with closed cell foam between box and foil, so no water can get in, saves you weight.

Hi,
Thanks for the information.
I think I have a pretty good idea on how it is originally constructed. I have got a lot of info from this forum, thanks everybody.
I will put it back to original state next autum/winter when the boat comes up on dry land :-))
Best regards/
Martin

Hi,
I am looking for a diagram of the keel structure for the Zero.  I seem to have some rusted-colored weeping in my keel, about 6 cm above the bulb.  I'd like to know more about the construction of the keel before routing around.  Thanks,

its a cast iron keel, covered with a skin of polyester/gelcoat. The cast iron is a kind with vertical `slots`  (was then allowed, saved weight). Its filled up with foam.

So rust 6 cm up of the bulb is a weird place.
